Join us on an unforgettable journey to Dovre and Rondane national parks in Norway, where autumn colors offer an outstanding spectacle. Here magnificent views await with freshly powdered mountain peaks, glowing landscapes and fantastic opportunities to photograph both mighty musk oxen and majestic moose.
The Rondane massif towers over vast, low-lying mountain ranges with wandering wild reindeer and large moose. Here you find yourself high up in the mountains for historical reasons: Rondane was protected as Norway's first national park in 1962. Here the peaks lie close together and hiking opportunities are many.
Dovre National Park, established in 2003, is dominated by high mountains between 1200 and 1600 m above sea level. The highest mountain is Snöhetta at 2286m above sea level. Dovre National Park is part of a larger conservation plan for Rondane, where the main purpose is to secure a common habitat for wild reindeer. The area has important wetland areas, a varied and unique flora and wildlife with various distinctive species.
We plan the days on site. We will search for musk oxen, then we hike into the mountains to places where they often stay. This requires a good backpack, sturdy boots and clothes that can withstand cold and rain. Early morning and evening we take tours to look for moose, this will mostly be spotting from the car but may involve short walks. We will dedicate ourselves to landscapes during the days, then we make our way into Rondane National Park, mainly two valleys, Grimsdalen and Dörålen, depending on time and weather we take a car trip through Einunndalen and up to the mountains, it is a half to full day excursion.

Itinerary
Day 1.
We arrive at the accommodation during afternoon/evening, Frode gives some current information and tips, we plan the next day based on weather and preferences.
Day 2.
Before breakfast we can take a short car trip and spot moose. After breakfast where we also make packed lunch, we set off, if the weather is good we stay out all day, in worse weather we can go back to the accommodation for a lunch break.

For those who want, we have time for some photography and then the journey home.
When you are somewhat familiar with the area, we can also split up during the days based on preferences.

Accommodation
Accommodation in two cabins with kitchen in each cabin, bathroom/toilet. Wifi in the main building but mobile coverage for surfing.
Trip start and end
The trip starts and ends on location at Dovre (to be announced later).
For those who don't have a car, pickup can be arranged at the nearest railway station, Dombås.
During the days we will drive around in Frode's and our own cars, carpooling is arranged on site. (We cannot park 6 cars out in the field.)
Practical about clothes, cameras etc.
This trip requires good equipment/clothes and reasonably good fitness if we have to walk a bit further to find musk oxen, but largely we get around by car and take shorter walks.
The weather is as always difficult to predict in the mountains, it can be sunny and quite warm during the days but can also be cold and even snow may come.
Telephoto lens for wildlife and birds and a good wide-angle normal preferably zoom for landscape. Tripod is good to have. If we find musk oxen they are usually calm and don't move much, and then it can be nice to have the telephoto lens on a tripod.
Sitting/lying pad that can withstand moisture and as mentioned, clothes for all weather, hat, warm mittens/gloves and waterproof clothes and boots.
Payment Terms
The payment terms differ from our general travel terms. The registration fee is paid via invoice in connection with registration.
The registration fee is 400 EURO. This is not refunded upon cancellation.
At least 30 days before the trip starts, the remaining amount is paid. For later cancellation than 30 days before the trip start, Fokus retains the entire price for the trip. If payment is late but cancellation occurs later than 30 days before the trip start date, Fokus has the right to demand the delayed payment on the then due amount.
Our price is calculated based on an exchange rate where one Swedish krona equals one Norwegian krona.
Extra travel terms for this trip:
Our price is calculated based on at least 6 participants and a euro rate of 11,20 SEK. With only 5 participants the trip is carried out but each participant is then charged 160 euro. With only 4 participants the trip is carried out but each participant is charged an extra 240 euro. (This applies regardless of the price at which the trip was booked.)
