Brutus Östling
Travel Guide & Photographer
Our tours are led by working nature photographers who know what it takes to capture strong wildlife images.
Small groups, carefully selected locations, and a strong focus on photography rather than rushed tourist stops.
From first contact to return home, you get clear communication, structure and dependable support.
While the name FOKUS FOTORESOR may be relatively new, it is built on a solid foundation of long experience. Together, our core team brings more than 100 years of knowledge and hands-on expertise — as photographers, authors, lecturers, and entrepreneurs.
All of our photo guides and tour leaders are carefully selected. They bring not only a passion for image-making, but also deep knowledge of the natural world and many years of experience leading photo tours across the globe.

At the heart of FOKUS FOTORESOR is Brutus Östling — principal owner and the person through whom most of our travelers book their photo journeys. Brutus is one of Scandinavia’s most internationally recognized nature photographers and has published more than 15 acclaimed photo books since his debut in 2005. Several of them have been nominated for the prestigious August Prize and have received international awards.
His photographic style is defined by presence, striking portraits, and a deep respect for the animals’ natural behavior.
Brutus has held solo exhibitions at Fotografiska Stockholm, appeared on both Swedish and international television, and lectured in settings ranging from the United Nations to universities and environmental conferences. Few photographers in the Nordic region have had such a strong influence on the way we see birds and wildlife — not only through their images, but also as writers and advocates for conservation.
His reputation, visual philosophy, and strong sense of storytelling form the foundation of FOKUS’ identity.
At FOKUS, we combine world-class nature photography with responsible travel. Our destinations stretch from the Arctic’s frozen wilderness and the wind-beaten peaks of Patagonia to Zimbabwe, Ecuador, Mongolia, and Central Asia. But Europe’s wilder corners — including the Pyrenees, Albania, and Sardinia — also hold an important place in our program.
Dreaming of photographing a bearded vulture at 2,000 meters above sea level, or elephants gathering at a waterhole in southern Africa? We will take you there — always with respect for both nature and the local communities.
We photograph in the golden light of early morning and wait patiently in hides. But we also believe that encounters with people, cultures, and new perspectives enrich every journey. That is why many of our expeditions combine wildlife and bird photography with landscapes, cultural experiences, and regional food traditions.

With our classic photo tours, we travel only to places we have visited ourselves — often many times — so that we can offer a carefully planned and reliable experience. With FOKUS FOTORESOR, we also occasionally break new ground and venture into less explored areas. When we do, it is always clearly stated in the trip description, so you know you are part of something truly unique.
All of our tours are covered by the travel guarantee administered by Kammarkollegiet, and we operate on our own capital base — not borrowed money. This provides both financial stability and a long-term commitment to our travelers.
With us, you are equally welcome whether you are just starting out or have been photographing for many years. Our guides meet you where you are and provide support, guidance, and inspiration throughout the journey.
For longer expeditions, we often recommend starting with one of our popular hide sessions at Brutus’ home base in Sweden — a perfect way to sharpen your skills before heading out on a bigger photographic adventure.

Travel the world with Brutus Östling — small groups, extraordinary experiences, unforgettable images.
