The best season for a photo safari in Africa varies by destination. In South Africa and Zimbabwe, the dry season from May to October is ideal — wildlife concentrates around water resources, vegetation is sparser and better illuminated, and lighting conditions are generally superior. Many specifically seek photo safari in Africa during winter months to combine the African experience with an escape from Northern European cold.
Equipment for a photo safari in Africa: a telephoto lens of 500–600mm is the standard recommendation for Big Five photography at distance.
